Synopsis: Yemoley et Yemoh sous l’arbre à Palabres is a production staged for families and young people. The production follows twins who are forced to flee a village and go into exile. Attempting to establish their lives elsewhere, their journey shows the effects of armed conflict and environmental pressure. This shows the extremities and multiplicities of displacement and life after forced exile. Professional actors worked with Morocco community participants from migrant backgrounds, to address the issue of population displacement. Various languages are spoken and through song and dance, the production emphasises universal values of experience and community. The symbolic tree also represents the effort to create roots after forced migration, suggesting that belonging depends upon created relationships rather than legally verified ones. By staging the story with residents of Morocco, it draws attention to North Africa as a place of settlement and transit.
