Synopsis: Sanctuary City follows B and G, two young undocumented immigrants growing up in the United States before DACA. Dependent on each other’s friendship, they begin to imagine their futures under the new immigration law. The play’s fragmented structure, repeated exchanges and intimate staging show how state power enters private relationships and everyday speech. It shows the complexities of undocumented childhood arrival and naturalisation. The production prompts the audience to consider the relationship between migrants and the nation-state, but also between different degrees of legal vulnerability within migrant communities. The play asks what belonging means when citizenship is unevenly distributed and when love, protection and sacrifice become entangled with legal status.
