Year: 2025
Produced by: Asmita Theatre Group
Creative Team: Directed by Arvind Gaur; written by Asghar Wajahat; music associated with Asmita’s production by Dr Sangeeta Gaur
Synopsis: Set immediately after the Partition of India, the production follows the Mirzas, a Muslim family forced to migrate from Lucknow to Lahore. They are allocated a haveli abandoned during the mass movement of Hindu families to India, but discover that its elderly Hindu resident has remained behind. The house therefore becomes a meeting point between different experiences of Partition: those who have crossed the new border and lost their former home, and someone threatened with displacement from the place she still considers home. Arvind Gaur’s production concentrates on ordinary people rather than political leaders, making forced migration, disrupted neighbourhoods and the reconstruction of belonging after territorial division central to its understanding of Partition.
