Synopsis: Pippo Delbono’s Evanđelje was created after encounters with actresses and dancers whose lives have been shaped by the tumultuous events of war, the country’s borders and its history. This connects experiences of war and national history to cultural displacement of people seeking refuge in Europe. Delbono searches for a language of mercy while confronting institutions that divide people into those deserving protection and those left outside it. Video and live performance connect contemporary displacement with memories of violence in Croatia. The piece operates between the private and public sphere, the project was partly autobiographical and historical as it was developed also alongside the Orchestra and Chorus of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
