Synopsis: Jessica Hagedorn’s Dogeaters is a vivid, multi-voiced portrait of the Philippines under the Marcos regime, blending political satire, pop culture, and raw historical trauma. Set in 1980s Manila, the play interweaves over 40 characters—radio hosts, revolutionaries, hustlers, beauty queens, and Imelda herself—in a chaotic media-saturated society rife with violence and resistance. Through Rio, a U.S.-raised Filipina returning home, the play explores memory, dictatorship, and colonial legacy in a grotesquely theatrical spectacle of beauty, brutality, and survival.
