Synopsis: ¡Bocón! (1998) is a full-length comedy that was created by Lisa Loomer and was published in 1998, and the story follow and young boy, who is travelling from Central America and into the United States with his guitar and his Quetzal feather to protect him in this long and arduous journey. The term ¡Bocón! loosely translates into the term “big mouth”, which is used to describe the young boy in the play. The story has Miguel, the boy, lose his voice when he witnesses his parents being arrested in central America by the soldiers of his country. Along his travels, Miguel meets an unlikely travel companion, the Weeping Woman, from the Mexican and Central American traditions and the play is written in English and Spanish. The story is filled with heartbreak and loss, there are elements of comedy all throughout the play and there are themes of friendship, courage and hope throughout the tale.
Publication: The production premiered in 1989, at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles but the play was published later in 1998.
