Synopsis: I Remember Mama (1944) was written by John Van Druten, and the script was loosely based on a novel called Mama’s Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes and the play ran for almost a full two years in the 1940s. There is a musical adaptation that was created by Rogers and Hammerstein in 1979. The play centers around the story of the Hansons, a family that migrated to the United States (San Francisco) from Norway, in the beginning of the twentieth century. The Mama takes care of her family and educates the children and there are aspects of comedy within the play but also tragedy.
Publication: The original production started in 1944 at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway. There has been a musical adaptation of the play as well.
